What are the Different Types of Teeth Cleanings?

At Drill Dental Bar we offer a few options for teeth cleaning. We can do a standard maintenance cleaning for our patients who have been practicing a healthy home routine, as well as a deep cleaning for any patient who’s might require a little more attention.

Maintenance – Our standard maintenance will have your dentist perform a cleaning that aids in preventative tooth decay, utilizing various tools that can help eliminate plaque and tartar accumulated since your previous visit.

Deep Cleaning – After your initial examination, your doctor will begin the root planning treatment with a topical anesthetic (however if you prefer, an IV sedation may be available). The surfaces of your teeth are smoothed out to prevent any more plaque from accumulating. This process will also allow the irritated or infected gum tissue to heal. Depending on the severity of the periodontal disease, full-mouth root planing may be performed. This can be done by splitting your treatment into quadrants, or all in one sitting, depending on the time frame discussed between you and your doctor.

There may be some initial tenderness and some possible minor gum bleeding, but this procedure will allow your gum line to heal and improve your overall mouth health.

What’s the
first step?

The first step to getting sparking, healthy, beautiful, teeth is education. Think of Drill Dental as a beacon of knowledge. Not only can we answer questions on the phone or in person during your appointment, but we’ll be including helpful tips on our Instagram page. By filling out a contact form or giving us a call, we’ll schedule a time for you to come meet one on one with a member of our expert dental team.

What are the Benefits of Teeth Cleanings?

Even if you are diligent about brushing and flossing your teeth routinely, gum disease is still an issue for everyone. Through the use of innovative methods, our doctors take pride in helping reduce gum disease and, with the assistance of proactive patients, even possibly reverse it.

Getting your teeth cleaned can help you in the following areas:

  • Gives you Fresher Breath – bad breath, also called halitosis, is one of the first signs of periodontal disease. This is usually caused by bacteria in your mouth created from rotting food particles accumulated below the gum line and infected gum tissue.
  • Removal of Tartar – tartar (and eventually plaque) can build up on your teeth, which affects the structures above and below the gum line, becoming a serious problem over time. Routine cleanings will remove plaque deposits, bacteria, and debris that are near impossible to detect and remove at home.
  • Improved Aesthetics – Yellow or stained teeth can be whitened and brightened, giving you a youthful, more confident smile.

What are Common Signs of Gum Disease (PERIODONTAL DISEASE)?

  • There are several signs of gum disease that can occur throughout the stages of infection. Some of the stages may consist of one or multiple signs:
  • Persistent bad breath (halitosis)
  • Pain when chewing, especially with hard or sticky items
  • Teeth sensitivity that is gradually increasing
  • The recession of your gum line, causing the teeth to look longer than they previously did
  • Loose Teeth

*If you have or are experiencing any of these symptoms, we highly encourage you to give us a call and set up an appointment.

How do I know if I need a Deep Cleaning?

If you are experiencing any gum tenderness or inflammation, bleeding when brushing or flossing, or have noticed that you suffer from constant bad breath, you should consider setting up a cleaning with our practice.

Deep Cleaning Recovery

After receiving your deep cleaning, you will be provided with some home care instructions that are tailored to each patient based on your unique situation. Depending on the severity and results of your personal cleaning, you may be requested to schedule a follow-up visit (roughly four to six weeks) in order to assess your teeth. If you are receiving a deep cleaning prior to receiving another procedure, you may be asked to return sooner.

If you are suffering from gum disease, you may also be asked to have a standard cleaning more frequently than the usual recommendation of every six months. The frequency of these cleanings can help prevent the development of any new infection and increase your chances of healing.
