What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain Veneers (sometimes called dental porcelain laminates) are strong, thin coverings that are custom fittings designed to hide and/or correct dental damage such as staining, discoloration, chipped or missing pieces of your teeth, decay, crookedness, or gaps between your teeth. They can be placed on the tops as well as the sides of your teeth to achieve this effect.

Am I a Good Candidate for Porcelain Veneers?

If you are looking for a long-term solution to dental issues but also have a history of persistent difficulties with other dental treatments such as teeth whitening, braces, or retainers, you are a great candidate for Porcelain Veneers.

What are the Benefits of getting Veneers?

Veneers are wonderful options to improve your smile and here at Drill Dental, we have noticed so many benefits for our patients, such as:

  • They have a natural-looking surface
  • They are strong and long-lasting
  • Less tooth enamel is needed to be removed
  • They don’t stain easily

What’s the best way to care for your Veneers?

You can prolong the look of your veneer through consistent brushing and flossing every day.

They can also break or chip under pressure, so avoid biting your fingernails or chewing on hard objects, so try to avoid chewing ice.

Why Do People Get Veneers?

There are many reasons why someone might elect to get Veneers, mostly due to severe issues they are having with their teeth.

  • Teeth may be discolored because of a past root canal, stains, the use of excessive fluoride, or other causes
  • Teeth have been worn down over the years through grinding or natural use
  • Broken or chipped tooth
  • Misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped
  • Closing the gaps between teeth

How Are Porcelain Veneers Applied?

After your dentist prepares your teeth, the veneer is carefully bonded and sculpted to your teeth using a composite material that is chosen specifically for you. A special light is then used to harden the composite, adhering it more securely to your teeth. Finally, the veneers are smoothed and polished to give you a natural-looking smile. When you elect to get Porcelain Veneers, it is a 2-3 appointment process.

First, a small amount of enamel will be removed from the front and sides of your teeth by your dentist. This allows for the veneer to rest naturally on your teeth.

  • Next, a mold of your prepared tooth is made. During this time, the best shade of the veneer will be decided on. This mold gets sent to a dental lab to be custom-made. This process unfortunately can take several days, but you may be administered temporary veneers to wear in the meantime.
  • Upon your next visit, your dentist will make sure your custom veneer fits your tooth. Once they are satisfied with the fit, your teeth will be cleaned and the veneer will be bonded to your tooth.
  • Any adjustments or changes can be made during future appointments.
