Crowns, onlays & veneers

Your temporary, final restoration, and the appointments in between.

Aftercare instructions

Follow these instructions alongside the personal plan you received at your appointment.

While you are numb

Wait until feeling has returned before eating so you do not bite your lip, cheek, or tongue.

Caring for a temporary

  • Keep it clean with gentle brushing.
  • Pull floss out sideways instead of lifting it upward, which can loosen the temporary.
  • If it loosens or comes off, save it and call the same day. Do not use household glue.

After the final restoration

Follow the instructions you receive for eating and cleaning. Keep brushing and flossing, and tell us if your bite feels high or uneven.

If your tooth is sensitive

Sensitivity can have several causes, including irritation inside the tooth, the way your teeth meet, or grinding and clenching. Tell us if it persists or gets worse so we can check the cause.

Your temporary and final restoration may feel different. Do not assume lasting pain is just the cement or something you have to tolerate.

Some teeth need root canal treatment after restorative work, especially when decay or previous damage has affected the nerve. Your doctor will explain your individual risk.

Medicines and your personal instructions

  • Take prescriptions exactly as directed, including the antibiotic course your doctor specified. Do not shorten or extend it on your own.
  • Use pain medicine only according to your discharge instructions. Ask your doctor or pharmacist before combining products, and do not exceed the label maximum.
  • Tell us about your medicines, supplements, allergies, pregnancy, and health conditions. Your instructions may need to be different.
  • Do not stop a blood thinner or change any regular prescribed medicine on your own.
Medical emergency? Call 911 for trouble breathing or swallowing, rapidly spreading swelling, fainting, or other life-threatening symptoms. Do not wait for an office reply. Emergency guidance

Your doctor’s instructions take priority. If you had more than one procedure, ask your team which instructions to follow. Contact your office.
